Complaints
The City of Hopkins investigates complaints of situations that may involve a violation of City ordinances (i.e. exterior storage, working without a permit, too many animals, junk vehicles).

Driveway Replacement
A permit is required for construction or replacement of a driveway. Requiring a permit enables the City to protect the public by setting and enforcing construction standards, inspect work done within the right-of-way, and ensure proper pavement construction.

Maintenance Inspections
The City of Hopkins inspects the exteriors of commercial, residential, and rental properties to ensure they are meeting the City's minimum standards. Inspections are conducted on a complaint basis and during frequent neighborhood inspections.

Roof Replacement / Installation
Building permits are required for all roofing projects. Submit your application to the Inspections Department at City Hall. Building permits for roofing are generally issued at the time of application.

During winter, it's up to the residents and businesses of Hopkins to remove snow and ice from public sidewalks.

The City of Hopkins Property Maintenance Ordinance (City Code Section 8-280 (PDF)) adopted the 2006 International Property Maintenance Code. It includes all aspects of the building from the structure to electrical, plumbing, and mechanical and fire concerns. You can examine a copy of the International Property Maintenance Code at the Inspections Department in City Hall.
